Sweater knits versus knitted sweaters

Do you know the difference between fully-fashioned knitwear and cut and sew knits?

Fully-fashioned knitwear (think sweaters) are made by knitting each panel of the garment into the shape it will be and then knitting the panels together. you don’t see any regular sewing machine stitching because the garment – hems, neckline, and everything – is knit as one finished piece.

Cut and sew knits are garments where the pieces are cut out of a roll of knitted fabric (like your typical tee-shirt jersey or sweaterknit cardigan). This process still requires a traditional garment pattern and the cut pieces are sewn and hemmed with sewing machines as the edges of the cut pieces are raw on their own.
