Who do you hang with?

In fashion, we often ask the question “who do you hang with?”. By this we mean what other brands could you hang with on the same store rack that share a similar price point, customer, and quality level. Today, though, I want to ask this question with a different meaning.

What I want to ask is: who (what people) do you (the business owner, designer, or founder of your brand) hang (out) with?

The other clothing hanging on a rack with your brand’s pieces puts your clothes in context and either elevates it or reduces its perceived value. Other brands’ clothing on the same rack can fill in the gaps of your brands’ offering to provide the customer with complete outfit options.

The people surrounding you can do the same.

I experienced the importance of this on my trip to NYC. For four days, I was surrounded by dozens of other fashion freelancers and business owners. I was blown away by how supportive, encouraging, collaborative, and motivating the group was!

The excitement in the room was palpable. We talked shop, shared resources, and challenged each other to grow in our careers. I got to meet my business coach/mentor in-person for the first time as well as several of my own coaching students. I got to stay with three incredible women whom I’ve known online for years. Our conversations left me reinvigorated about my business and affirmed as a person.

I was hanging on a rack that elevated me.

It was a powerful experience and one that I hope to continue even now that the trip is over. I want this kind of community for you as well. It can change the way you see your business and yourself for the better.

So, who do you hang with? Is it a rack you want to be on? Hit reply and let me know.
