3 months of daily email writing – my honest thoughts

I thought I knew what I was getting into with daily email writing.

I’m subscribed to several daily email newsletters and have heard many people share the benefits of daily writing. Still, after three months of writing every weekday myself, I’ve found the results surprising. (If you’re new here, welcome! To catch you up, I started this daily newsletter experiment at the beginning of February.)

So what has caught me off guard about this daily writing thing?

Capturing inspiration

I thought I was pretty good about remembering questions people ask or topics I find interesting and want to explore further, but I realize now I was not. Having to come up with something to write about every day, though, has forced me to actually have a process for noting down ideas. It has been so exciting to see inspiration pop up everywhere!

Personal connection

I’ve been intentionally weaving more personal stories into the newsletter and, who would have guessed it, you all seem to resonate with those emails. I’ve enjoyed your replies and the conversations that have sparked.

The power of a daily habit

It took me literally years to find my groove with writing blog posts twice a month. I was worried it would take me just as long to adjust to writing for this new format. This has not been the case. While I still feel like I can improve in a lot of ways, the daily practice and iterating so quickly has massively sped up the learning curve.

This wasn’t crazy

I expected there would be a percentage of people who would unsubscribe when I announced I was switching to a daily email. Guess how many people unsubscribed after that announcement email: literally zero. Some people have unsubscribed since then, but nothing drastic and my list has actually grown. This tells me I am on the right track and that you are finding these emails valuable!

So, my conclusion on daily newsletters? I’m liking them and, from what I can tell, you’re liking them too. I started daily writing as an experiment and committed to trying it for a few months. Now, I’m going to keep it going.

I’m curious, what are your honest thoughts about receiving daily emails from me? What are you liking or disliking? Hit reply and let me know. I always enjoy hearing from you.
