Catching cut corners before production

Disappointing production quality is the worst when it catches you by surprise.

The best way to resolve any corner-cutting before production is to keep detailed notes during development. Only then will you be able to catch any issues and address them in time.

Thoroughly go over each swatch or sample you receive from the factory to check that all your expectations are met. Document your findings in the sample comment pages of the tech pack so that you have a record of decisions. Compare what you received with what was requested in the tech pack. Talk with your factory about any materials or elements that aren’t meeting your expectations.

Your factory is on the same team as you so work together with them collaboratively to find the best resolution for your product and budget. Your factory may even have suggestions of how to improve the quality or production efficiency without adding to the cost!

Whatever you do, don’t blindly go into production without an approved sample and a documented resolution to any concerns that came up during development.
