If you do something one time, slight inconveniences are barely noticeable. You can workaround and figure it out. Once it’s done, it’s done and you can move on.
The more you have to do that same thing, though, the more each little step matters. That minor inconvenience becomes a huge headache. Any inefficiencies compound into significant delays. Having to do the same workaround for the 10th, 100th, or 1,000th time will drive you crazy.
This is the concept behind production patterns. A good production pattern eliminates all unnecessary or inefficient steps. It doesn’t require any workarounds at any point in the process. It is made to move smoothly through the sewing line with the least amount of ambiguity and complexity needed to produce the design.
If you want to get on the good side of your factory and sewers (and save money in production), make sure your patterns are optimized so that the garments are easy to produce over and over again.
