Don’t forget to check your pockets

Have you ever noticed how there are lists of things we check our pockets for in different situations?

We check our pockets for phone, keys, and wallet before heading out the door.

We check our pockets for loose change, kleenex, or bobby pins before throwing the garment in the wash.

We check our pockets for passports, phones, and anything else before going through TSA at the airport.

There is a whole list of things to check pockets for during fittings too. This list is a bit different, though, as it is about checking the pockets themselves rather than checking for what’s in them. We want to make sure they will work well to hold all the necessities in other situations.

This is my pocket-checking checklist:

  • Functional placement of the opening
  • Size of the opening
  • Pocket bag shape and angle
  • Pocket bag size
  • Visual proportions and placement of pockets seen on the outside of the garment
  • Opacity of the shell fabric over internal pocket bags
  • The security of pocket contents while moving and sitting
