Following the trail of your fashion industry network

Here’s an example of how conversations and connections – even ones not directly related to what you do – can lead to valuable insights.

Recently I shared this article by Jason Cohen and my thoughts about being specific about your target market for your fashion brand.

I found out about Jason’s work and this article when he was recently interviewed on Jonathan Stark’s podcast Ditching Hourly.

Years ago, I was introduced to Jonathan’s writing and podcasts on pricing and positioning from another podcast he was a frequent panelist on called The Freelancer’s Show (also not fashion-related).

The Freelancer’s Show was recommended to me by Sew Heidi.

I first learned about Sew Heidi when the Pattern Observer blog did an interview with her in January 2016.

A year or so before that, I had stumbled upon Pattern Observer in the featured resources section on StyleSight (which later merged with WGSN) when I had a subscription through my old job.

You never know where the trail of your network will lead! The trail may be windy and you may not be able to see where it goes, but that doesn’t mean it is not worth following.
