Digital production patterns usually are in formats that you can’t open without a CAD patternmaking software. This doesn’t mean you can’t access your patterns, though! There are several ways you can view and print your production patterns at home.
Often, you can open a dxf pattern in Adobe Illustrator and either print directly from there or save as a pdf.
Your patternmaker might also be able to provide your pattern directly in Adobe Illustrator file format (I do for my clients). If you have this file, you can skip the step of importing the dxf and it will likely open up with better default formatting.
Either way, to print on a standard printer, you’ll have to tile the letter-size pages and tape them together. Having to tile and tape a pattern isn’t ideal for production (which would use a marker instead anyway), but works just fine if you need to make a sample or two at home.
