Perfectionism has zero tolerance

Absolute perfection isn’t really the goal in garment production. Slight variance in the cutting, sewing, and even in how the garment is measured makes it impossible to meet the spec exactly.

The standard in garment-making is not perfection, it is to be within tolerance.

Every garment point of measure has a tolerance based on its size and importance to the design and fit. As long as the finished garment measurement is within that tolerance window, it passes and is deemed a good product.

We understand the concept and practice of being in tolerance when it comes to garments, but can we apply it to ourselves as well?

What is the tolerance for the work that we do? How do those tolerances reflect the importance and alignment of each task in relation to our big picture goals? What areas can we (I’m reminding myself here) let go of perfection and aim for being in tolerance instead?
